The Mahler special edition is available at the box office and at the CD table in the concert foyer on the evening of the concert for CHF 5.
Our music director began his Mahler cycle last February with Symphony No. 5 - now he continues it with Symphony No. 7, whose nickname "Song of the Night" may not come from the composer himself, but it certainly fits. For example, there is a night music in which the harp plays a serenade in the most beautiful harmony with a guitar and a mandolin. Or a scherzo where you don't quite know whether to describe it as a nightmare or a haunting. The final jubilation, on the other hand, is so dazzlingly bright that it once aroused irritated reactions. The whole thing is as always with Mahler: ambiguous, subtle - and ravishingly theatrical.
