They are between 14 and 24 years old, fit on their instruments – and highly motivated to play in an orchestra. Young people have been given the opportunity to do this since 1987 in the Zurich Youth Symphony Orchestra, which is closely linked to the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich as a Junior Music Partner. It is conducted by our principal trombonist David Bruchez-Lalli. The programme includes Dvořák's Symphony No. 8, which is still rich in Bohemian motifs, but in which the new world can already be heard. The programme also features another Swiss composer, Joseph Lauber, who had close contacts with the Tonhalle Zurich thanks to Friedriech Hegar, the first chief conductor of the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich and founder of the Zurich Conservatory. Frank Martin's Concerto is a brilliant virtuoso piece for seven solo instruments. Seven wind soloists from the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich will perform this work with the JSOZ.
