"Light and shadow" is one of the themes of the chamber music matinees this season. Our musicians spontaneously thought of two works by Haydn and Schönberg: the titles "Sunrise" and "Transfigured Night" already reflect the motto. The stylistic epochs of classical and modern are as contrasting as "light and shadow". But the quartet selected is not simply a "pretty" Haydn, according to cellist Christian Proske, who chose the programme for this concert. "Especially the elaborate slow movements in Haydn's quartet form a good counterbalance to the great sextet by Schönberg, with whom I have a long and strong connection musically."
