Cello, Kemantsche and Salami Sandwich

Our focus artist Kian Soltani has already played his way into the hearts of audiences as a soloist with the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich: Unforgettable his Dvořák Cello Concerto conducted by Jakub Hrůša in May 2022. The 30-year-old Vorarlberg native with Iranian roots is also one of the most highly regarded young cellists in chamber music. He already showed in the Série jeunes in 2015, for which he has received several awards: The velvety warmth and technical perfection he elicits from his cello – recordings with Daniel and his son Michael Barenboim as well as collaborations with many other artists are proof of his finesse and his chamber music sensitivity. Paul Handschke, principal cellist in the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, is particularly looking forward to the musical reunion with him: "Making music with Kian Soltani is simply unbelievable fun," he says, because in addition to his instrumental skills, he is a fabulous communicator – "especially in chamber music formations, it comes into its own wonderfully that he communicates magnificently without any airs and graces". In the Cosmos Chamber Music, he now shares the stage with cellists of the orchestra in a varied programme from Vivaldi to Piazolla, including arrangements from his own pen.
