The grand piano was the flat

Programme change: Instead of the originally planned piano concerto by Brahms, we will play Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 and a work by Arvo Pärt. Tickets remain valid. Thank you for your understanding.

Who is Víkingur Ólafsson's favourite character in history? In our questionnaire, this year's focus artist first named his mother and then - Beethoven. Before and after that, Paavo Järvi conducts works from the 20th century that are just as popular with audiences as they are with orchestras: Arvo Pärt's "For Lennart in memoriam" was composed in 2006 for the abdication of Estonian President Lennart Meri. And Witold Lutosławski's "Concerto for Orchestra" was already a success at its premiere in Warsaw in 1954: in it, the Polish composer short-circuited Masurian folk music and his own musical language - both effectively and profoundly.
