"Rugby! In Arthur Honegger's most sporting orchestral work, you are acoustically in the stadium, the two teams are each given a theme, the sounds fly through the hall just as fast as the ball across the pitch. And there is also a competitive atmosphere on this evening: the final concert of the Conductor's Academy is (also) about who wins the audience prize and participation in Paavo Järvi's Pärnu Music Festival. The decision will be made at the end of the concert - after the young conductors have demonstrated their qualities not only in Honegger's "Rugby", but also in works by Strauss, Brahms and another Strauss.
