The opening event under the motto "All grey - not clever at all" was a colourful affair.
This season, musicians from the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich are once again on the road in Zurich's community centres with a new chamber music series. "Kunterwunderbunt" is the title of the story or stories that Nelly Danker has come up with and is now staging herself. It is about the girl Yvi (played by Madeline Engelsmann), who discovers all kinds of colours in a moment of boredom - and therefore all kinds of timbres.
This is ensured by the music by Rodolphe Schacher, who has set the four parts to music in very different ways for different instrumentations. "Children can understand and accept much more than adults, they have no expectations of the music," he says in the interview: That's why everything is possible - from grey music, which is supposed to sound extra boring, to bright red, black and white, shiny golden sounds.
At the opening of "Kunterwunderbunt" in the Hottingen GZ, the children not only followed the action on stage with open ears and eyes, they also sang along, learnt about instruments, made things and asked questions. The fact that some of them also tried out the harp was not planned, but it just happened - as a colourful spontaneous idea, so to speak.
The other parts of the series will follow in January, March and May in various community centres in the city; the big "Festival of Colours" will then take place in July in the Kleine Tonhalle.
