The journey continues until 2029
It gives us great pleasure, dear audience, to announce that Ilona Schmiel and Paavo Järvi will continue their work with the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich with many local cooperation partners and for friends of music all over the world here at the Tonhalle Zürich.
Our Board of Directors has extended both contracts by five years until the end of the 2028/29 season. Martin Vollenwyder, Chairman of the Board of Directors, commented: «This will enable us to remain on our chosen path in the renovated Tonhalle – known all over the world for its outstanding acoustics – together with this successful leadership duo.»
She came in 2014, he came in 2019, and then came Corona. But there was also the construction of the internationally acclaimed interim venue Tonhalle Maag and the move there with the orchestra and management team, indeed with the entire audience. There was the major renovation of the main hall, and the move back home. There were countless concerts that remain unforgotten, celebrated CD recordings, tours, residencies and formats that will be continued: What Ilona Schmiel and Paavo Järvi , together with the management team and the orchestra, have begun to build here with powerful commitment can continue to grow.
«I am honoured and excited to continue my work with the wonderful musicians of the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich,» says Paavo Järvi. He is very committed to the orchestra and its future and feels privileged to work with such a great team, both on stage and behind the scenes. Ilona Schmiel says she too is happy to continue working here in Zurich for such a wonderful orchestra together with Paavo Järvi: «We continue on our chosen path of anchoring this high quality orchestra locally and pushing it internationally.»
To the future!
