Vilde Frang - Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No. 1

Vilde Frang made her debut in 1997 in the Série jeunes at the young age of 11. So she is in good company with great soloists like Sol Gabetta or Yuja Wang. In 2012 she also won the Credit Suisse Young Artist Award at the Lucerne Festival - like Sol Gabetta eight years earlier. Today, the Norwegian violinist is one of the «most expressive and at the same time most reflective artists of our time», according to the Neue Zürcher Zeitung (July 20th, 2019).

«Music has always been my oxygen,» says Vilde Frang. And Paavo Järvi thinks: «Vilde Frang is a great musician. She is very unique because she has her own view of things.».

Her career began when she was just 12 years old when she performed at the Oslo Philharmonic under the musical direction of the late Mariss Jansons. Later, on the advice of Anne-Sophie Mutter, she went to Germany for further studies. As a result, Mutter became her artistic mentor for some time.

Rafael Payare, who gave his debut at the Dîner Musical 2018 with the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, will be the conductor of this concert. Béla Bartók's suite «The Wonderful Mandarin» will be performed before the violin concert. Rafael Payare says of «The Wonderful Mandarin»: «A wonderful piece, quite grateful and virtuoso». The trained horn player Payare feels lucky that he was assistant of conductors such as Claudio Abbado and Daniel Barenboim and that Lorin Maazel was his teacher. He gave him the following advice: «You have to be able to dance with an orchestra.»

Dvořák himself said of the Seventh symphony: «My symphony should move the world.»
