Anton Bruckner's Symphony No. 3 was once the first to be performed in the Tonhalle Zurich. That was in January 1898, when Richard Strauss conducted the work during a guest performance by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.

In November 2023, this third work was once again on the programme as part of the Bruckner cycle – in the third version from 1889. "With its great classical-romantic tradition, the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich is ideally suited to Bruckner," says Paavo Järvi.
